Challenges

A striking, complex architectural interior with unusual spatial forms

Large volumes of new and returning visitors navigating eight floors

Need to maintain the building’s contemporary aesthetic

Integration of cafés, breakout areas and reading rooms with clear circulation

Requirement for a signage system that complements sustainable building principles
Our Approach
We developed a clean, modern signage strategy tailored to the library’s unique architecture. Our system was designed to align with the interior’s minimalist style while remaining highly visible and easy to interpret. We ensured that key facilities including the Hardback Café and breakout spaces with panoramic views were easy to locate without interrupting the visual harmony of the space. All signage was specified to be durable, flexible and compatible with the building’s sustainability goals.

Results
The new wayfinding system immediately improved navigation throughout the library, reducing confusion during peak times and supporting a calmer study environment. The contemporary signage aligned with the architectural intent and enhanced the building’s identity. Delivered ahead of the Royal opening by Queen Elizabeth II, the project contributed to the library’s reputation as a world-class academic facility and remains a model of integrated wayfinding design.
More University Wayfinding
Every project we deliver is rooted in how people actually think, move, and make decisions. The results speak for themselves! Clearer journeys, fewer questions, reduced stress, and environments that simply work better.
