Jason Kenny Centre
The Jason Kenny Centre, named after Olympic cycling double gold medallist Jason Kenny, is a facility which include a fitness suite, a community gym, dance and workout studio and eight-lane, 25-metre swimming pool. Built as part of a regeneration scheme in the Bolton One project it offers fantastic sporting facilities to the Bolton community. The centre aims to inspire young people to get active and aim for success in the sporting world.
Wayfinder UK were commissioned to provide an analysis for the Jason Kenny Centre, to help ensure the facility would be user friendly upon opening. The team was brought in at an early stage, allowing them to be provide a strategy whilst the centre was built. This also allowed for the building to be purposely designed for an efficient wayfinding system, giving the consultants the opportunity to be influential at an early stage.
The main challenge was to form a strategy for both the health centre and university for the use of the facility without compromising security.
There were certain complexities which needed to be considered when guiding people to the necessary locations within the centre.
Users needed to be guided without crossing into areas that were off limits. A successful system was soon created and implemented which has allowed for the Jason Kenny Centre function efficiently.
The Jason Kenny Centre has been a tremendous success, providing a world class sporting facility to help train the athletes of the future.
